Over de Auteur
New Testament scholar Bart D. Ehrman grew up in Lawrence, Kansas and graduated from Wheaton College in 1978. He earned his Masters of Divinity and PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary and has taught at Rutgers University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is the James toon meer A. Gray Distinguished Professor. He has published more than 20 scholarly and popular books, including three New York Times bestsellers, plus numerous articles and book reviews. Aan het eind van het boek is de toon ten aanzien van de kopiisten, die (on)bewust veranderingen aanbrachten in de te kopiëren manuscripten milder dan aan 't begin. Het zijn mensen die lezen, interpreteren, toepassen, kaders gebruiken, zoals wij dat allemaal doen. Lezen en begrijpen, doorvertellen en interpreteren is veranderen van woorden. Dat deden de auteurs van de evangelieën, brieven en openbaringen van het Nieuwe Testament al, en zo ook de kopiisten, onder invloed van sociale context, discussies in de gemeente ten aanzien van de goddelijkheid van Jezus Christus, de rol van de vrouw en de eucharistie. Ehrman besluit "In dat opzicht hebben de kopiisten de Schrift veranderd op manieren waarop wij dat niet doen. In een meer fundamentele zin hebben ze de Schrift echter veranderd op een manier waarop we dat allemaal doen, elke keer als we erin lezen. Zij probeerden namelijk net als wij te begrijpen wat de auteurs hadden geschreven, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd probeerden te zien welke betekenis de woorden van de auteurs voor hen konden hebben, en hoe ze hen konden helpen om hun eigen situaties en hun eigen levens te doorgronden."
En voor wie nog denkt, dat de Nederlandse bijbelvertalingen schoon zijn en 1:1 teruggrijpen op de oorspronkelijke teksten , helaas. Per vertaling worden keuzes gemaakt vanuit een bepaalde context. Daarover zijn treffende verschillen aan te wijzen tussen bijvoorbeeld de Statenvertaling, de NBG en de NBV. De evolutie van de Bijbel brengt je niet van je geloof af, maar moedigt wel aan standpunten ten aanzien van inspiratie, tekstuitleggingen op basis van enkele verzen toe te passen, te herzien.… (meer)
