Las 36 vistas del monte Fuji creadas por Utagawa Hiroshige y Katsushika Hokusai, los más reputados dibujantes, grabadores y pintores del estilo ukiyo-e. Los dos son los intérpretes más importantes de la ilustración nipona, con un control sutil del cromatismo —con el dominio del verde y del azul— y su sentido del primer plano, que sería imitado, más tarde, por la fotografía y el cine.
Este libro es una gran novedad porque muestra las visiones enfrentadas y al mismo tiempo compenetradas del monte Fuji, el pico más alto de la isla de Honshu, está considerado sagrado desde la Antigüedad y les estaba prohibido a las mujeres llegar a la cima hasta la era Meiji (finales del siglo XIX)
