I bought this book several years ago on a trip to New Harmony IN, where we walked the labyrinth. I found it to be a very moving experience, and I expected this book would expand on that. However, it was just a series of short blurbs giving different things to do and concentrate on while walking the labyrinth. Sometimes it got a little goofy. I didn't care for it much.

In the first few chapters of this book the author tries to validate the use of labyrinths. She mentions that church fathers such as Ambrose, Gregory of Nyssa and Jerome wrote about labyrinths. Her failure to state what they wrote was a sign to me that they disapproved of them. I don;t really know what their ideas were about labyrinths. The author also states that labyrinths were in use during Jesus' time but does not give details. Again, they probably weren't used by Jesus or anyone in his faith community. This lack of detail turned me off.

In addition, the author talks about how to pray as you walk the labyrinth and mentions several times that when you get to the middle, you should feel ectasty, This sounds a little Eastern religion to me and I concluded after reading the book that labyrinths are rubbish.
