I would love to be part of one of these courageous groups, who fight for the health and quality of life and a fair economy. Since it is now almost 18 years since this book was written, if feel the need to "catch up" on these group in Francis Moore Lappe's later books. So I have still a lot to read. However, I think that activism should come first. Sitting at home reading doesn't get much done.
Diet for a Small Planet was my go-to college cookbook and amino acids text. Frankie Lappe was ahead of the curve not only on vegetarian cooking but also the link between food and the planet's health; climate researchers confirm her observations here on unsustainable food production. Imagining the bird that produced 14-oz. Costco chicken breasts draws me back to Lappe's dietary and planetary views.… (meer)
Yep, doomed is what we are. We are living as if nothing matters but us, and although Lappe has some hope, I guess I don't really. I see how the changes she recommends could have an effect, but I'm doubtful of humanity's willingness to make changes in time. This book made me less hopeful than I was before I started it, and that's going a far piece.

Unfortunately, far from living up to her mother's fame, Anna Lappé repeats tired information, writes unconvincingly, and in the end offers little in the way of solutions to the climate crisis.
Granted, I've done a fair bit of reading on the subject, but I learned nothing new from this book. Instead, I wondered several times how much needless environmental damage Ms. Lappé had done over the course of her reporting.
