Just to be clear, I AM a descendant of Jacob Hamblin's brother, Gunlock Bill, and he is a hero to my family so that may make me a bit biased. But, this book is a joy to read. It was written for youth, but it doesn't condescend. Jacob led an extraordinary life, crossing the plains in a wooden wagon pulled by horses, learning the Hopi language and representing his culture to the natives of that language. He worked with General Powell that the US government hired to explore the Colorado river and was respected by the Natives like few other whites were.… (meer)
