The UC Davis Bookstore presents Yiyun Li, Professor of English at U.C. Davis, in a talk about her new book, Gold Boy, Emerald Girl. Free and open to the general public. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A period and a book signing.

With two books—her debut book of stories, A Thousand Years of Good Prayers, received the PEN/Hemingway, the Frank O'Connor International Short Story, and Guardian First Book Awards, and now her first ... (meer)novel, The Vagrants (Random House)—she is clearly a writer making her mark. Ms. Li came to the U.S. from Beijing in 1996 to study medicine—and received a master's in immunology—but then turned to fiction writing. Granta cited her as one of the Best Young American Novelists under thirty-five.

The Vagrants, the astonishing first novel from Yiyun Li, the author of the award-winning story collection A Thousand Years of Good Prayers, weaves together the delicate moments between mothers and sons, husbands and wives, illuminating the reality of oppression and pain.
