Korte biografie
Karen Marie Moning (rhymes with 'awning') was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. She graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Society and Law. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a bartender, a computer consultant, and an insurance specialist.

She began her career writing paranormal romance set in Scotland but as she became increasingly fascinated with Celtic mythology, she switched genres to Urban Fantasy and location to Dublin, Ireland, so she could focus on the Tuatha de Danann, or Fae--an ancient race of immortal beings who have lived secretly among humans for millennia. A Rita-award winning novelist, she is the author of the Highlander novels and the internationally bestselling urban fantasy Fever series. Her books have been published in twenty-four languages, and her events draw fans from all over the world.

She divides her time between the mountains of Georgia and the beaches of Florida.

WOW. This book seldom went down ANY road that I thought it would-other than the tone of the ending. Ms. Moning, I bow to you.

I just finished this book, so you'll need to excuse any I coherence. I would imagine that there's gonna be a lot of babbling in the initial reviews in this one;it was tat good. I couldnt even stop myself from reading to highlight significant passages, but that's okay. I'll be rereading this series many, many times.

Okay, let me get my thoughts together.

General-
The first thing that comes to mind are Moning's previous Highlander books. This book makes me want to read them again. If I'm not mistaken, a couple of previous characters make brief appearances in the book. Very brief, but interesting enough that I'm going to go read again.

Plot-
I love it when a writer does the unexpected and literally DRAGS me down a storyline that I don't want to go; upsetting me with plot twists and actions. Then sitting back and demonstrating such awesomeness that I'm eventually embarrassed that I doubted them. This book did that for me, hell, the whole series did. It doesn't happen frequently, but always surprises and delights.

Other Books-
The way is left open for future books. Perhaps not with Mac as the main character, but I can easily see Dani, or some of Barrons boys as leads. I'm not sure if I even want to see Mac as the lead again, but trust Ms. Moning to do her justice if she will be.

All in all, I see this book as being in MY list of best books of 2011.

Reread April 2022: it’s still a solid romance and sets the groundwork for the rest of the series. However, there are several problematic elements - Adrienne (the MC) is transported from the 21st century (maybe 20th this book came out in the cusp I think) to 1500 Scotland. She ends up in the castle of a nasty guy whose daughter has just died and was called Mad Janet because she likely experienced mental health issues (it’s not clear). Anyway it’s pretty shitty how everyone speaks about Janet. Also, some disparaging remarks and actions toward Romny Travelers. Hawk, the other MC, is kind toward them so that is meaningful but it’s a tired trope to shit on a marginalized group.

Also, I just remembered how much the author loves virgins so if you’re over virgin damsels you may dislike this entire series lol.

1st read 2020: Fae & time travel & Scotland & kilts & rippling abdomens? FINE TAKE MY MONEY! (actually I checked it out from the Library but you get me).

Cursed with 13 nasty souls, Scottish and a Druid? Time travel and magic stones? Celtic artifacts?
Sign.
Me.
Up.
This is probably my favorite book in the series so far.
