I read this book cover to cover for a class on the sociology of drugs. The authors take an unusual stance when discussing drugs academically. Mosher and Akins talk about the problems with illegal and legal drug policy with the ultimate attitude that all drugs should be legalized. While this is an opinion that is unpopular in educational drug research it allows the authors to expose problems in the current system. Mosher and Akins do a wonderful job discussing both the legal and illegal drug problems with policy, use, and abuse. However, the authors commit a huge mistake by letting their biases overshadow fact in some instances.

There is a lot of imperative information and statistics that point out problems with the drug policies, drug treatment, and drug images in the United States. This will allow any person to understand the current state we find ourselves in. Nonetheless, the reader must be able to see through the prejudice of the authors and pick out the truths among the clear agenda Mosher and Akins push toward.
