The darlings are doing well. As for mischief? If there's a goat, there's mischief. I just returned from Rehoboth, MA, where I picked up a buckling from Rosasharn Farm. Their goats are arguably the best of the major genetic lines for Nigerian dwarf dairy goats. I am excited.

Not sure if you remember me or not, but you reviewed my novel, Dirty Little
Angels, a while back. I'm writing because I'm almost done with my new novel, In
the Valley of Falling Stars, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in
taking a look at it and giving me your opinion. I can send you a complete
summary, but it's essentially about a mentally-ill man living in post-Katrina
New Orleans who becomes convinced that his wife is pregnant with Jesus Christ.
The book is still in process, but the entire book is sketched out, and I
currently have eight chapters that I feel are done. If you're too busy, I
understand. Just thought I'd ask.

I am definitely going to read Invisible Man. I will probably start on Monday. I want to get a little farther into Gone with the Wind, plus I will be out of town on the weekend. But I am going to read that book for sure in September. :) Hope you have a nice Labor Day Weekend.

You are really doing great with the group read! I just hit the halfway point. I have enjoyed reading your comments on the book. Are you going to read Invisible Man, too? I am going to read that after finishing Middlemarch. Also, there is a group called Group Reads -- Literature that often reads books off the 1001 list. I am reading Red and Black for that group, although I have fallen behind as I enjoy Middlemarch more. They are just now starting Madame Bovary, which I read recently. So I am just going to lurk on that one. I also just started on Gone With the Wind, which I have not read in a long time. The movie is playing through me head as I read it. Don't know if that is good or bad! :)

I have had a few bad experiences with "classics" (like Catcher in the Rye & Anna Karenina) so I am glad to have the 1001 book to give me some guidance and context as to why these books are so great. I am reading Oliver Twist and I am pleasently surprised with Charles Dickens. My only exposure had been the Muppets Christmas Carol and I had no idea how sarcastic of a writer he was.

I just got a few more books on the list that aren't at my library - too bad work interfers with my reading time.

I hate when I realize I have already read a book. I read Angela's Ashes quite a few years back so I don't remember too much about it - other than it was moving and depressing at the same time. I need to pick up The Shining from the library. I am in the mood for something different and I am relieved to hear that it isn't full of blood and guts.

I know I have to keep reminding myself that it is okay to read a book that isn't on the 1001 list. The Brothers Karamavoz has been my favorite Russian lit to date, but that doesn't say much : ) I still can't figure out why it needed to be so long.

I see you are reading The Shining - I will be interested to know what you think. I saw the movie, but I haven't read any Stephen King. I am looking forward to it (and crossing one more off the list).
