LibraryThing is a wonderful thing, and I use it all the time to see what other folks are reading ... just like you.
It's hard to beat Sabatini for a good read. Most of his work is out of print, but you can still pick up good hardcover reading copies of his work rather inexpensively using www.bookfinder.com...
I heartily recommend John Biggins as worthy of your interest. His four novels concerning WWI Submariner/Aviator Otto Prohaska are a terrific read.
I have yet to read a bad Bernard Cornwell book, and the list goes on and on....
