My library consists primarily of books I've not only read, but that I enjoy reading over and over again. Well, in terms of fiction - non-fiction I like to have around as reference, and tends heavily toward language (thesauruses, style guides). As a librarian, I weed; if I no longer value a book, it goes (usually to a book-swapping site so I can obtain a new one). And I like to have my favorites in hardcover - right now I have an insane number of books wishlisted on two book-swapping sites, almost all of them books I already own in paperback, but want in hardback. I've also added books I don't own to my catalog as well (tagged as @read-not-owned). Mostly books borrowed from the library - only stuff I feel is memorable in some way, though.

My fiction tastes are varied: I read almost every genre, though I certainly lean toward fantasy and science fiction. I think I enjoy the speculative fiction genres because I appreciate the creativity that world-building entails. As such, I prefer the SF that takes place in worlds substantially different than our own, and especially if the cultures are different - that, I think, is even more difficult to create than a different physical world, and even more fascinating - one of my favorites, Sheri Tepper, is particularly good at both aspects of world-building.

I do have a little bit of a weakness for nice leatherbound classics just to have on display in my living room - they account for the @will-never-read tag.

And finally, for non-fiction, my interests are:
Bodyart (cultural aspects)
(Books about) books
Consumerism
Design
Education & culture
English language usage (humorous)
Etymology
Evolutionary psychology (my, what a run of Es!)
Fashion advice
Religion and sociology
Signs and symbols
Technology and sociology
Usability
Over mij
Librarians think I'm a computer geek.

Techies think I'm a bookworm.

And my last roommate called me a librarian with a tattoo, and I wasn't even a librarian then.

I'm a librarian (cataloger, actually) at the Poquoson Public Library in southeast Virginia, and live in Newport News, with my husband and two cats, Miranda and Oz.
