Over mijzelfMy biggest hobbies are genealogy, local history, cartography and reading (preferably in combination).

Over mijn boekenOver the years, I've accumulated loads of books. The main topics are genealogy, local history (Gelderland, Zeeland, Overijssel, Noord-Brabant, Wisconsin), emigration (mainly nineteenth century stuff) and cartography. For even more fun, I read a lot of fantasy books and historical novels or biographies.

At this time, I've added all the books in my living room and the guest room. These cover topics like my fantasy and scifi collection, my English and Dutch literature sections, my books about cartography, Dutch emigration to the US and local history (mainly about the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands). I've yet to start on the books in my study (mostly genealogical sources like cemetery records) and the attic (mostly books on computer science and management studies and children's books). I own or used to own all of the books that are in my collection.

About my ratings:

5 stars: Absolute love it, the kind of book I would pack if I had to live on a deserted island. Should be on the bookshelf of anybody interested in this topic.

4 stars: I liked it better than I thought, highly recommended.

3 stars: I liked it. Usually this is a book that delivered what I thought it would, nothing more, nothing less.

2 stars: a bit disappointing or not very a interesting topic in the first place.

1 star: I really didn't like it or the topic didn't interest me at all. I would not buy this book again if I lost it in a fire. If you're a friend of mine and like any of my 1 star books, I would happily give it to you.

0 stars: I haven't gotten around to reading or rating it.

About my collections:

Digitale collectie (digital): Means I do not have a physical copy of the book, just a digital one. I enter digital books as well because I want to be able to find all the items I have on a certain topic, regardless of whether it's paper or bits and bytes.

Onderweg (en route): I don't want people buying me books I've already ordered, so I enter books even before I get them! With the current exchange rate, I buy lots of books from Amazon.com, which usually take over a month to get here. In the meanwhile, they'll be in my 'en route' collection.

Ontzameld (de-collected): These are books I used to own, but gave away to people who enjoy them more. It feels like a shame to delete them though, so hence this separate tag.

DVDs: Since the collection feature became active, I've decided to add my DVD collection as well.

I also use some non-topic tags:
jaarboek (yearbook), tijdschrift (magazine), biografie (biography), scheepsjournaal (ship's journal), handleiding (guide).
