I thank everyone who has contributed to LibraryThing's Dutch translation. Every contribution is important.

Serious complaints about certain members' translations continue, and my general impression has been backed up by Dutch colleagues. I do NOT care whether any one translation is good or bad. We are all entitled to be wrong, even repeatedly. But acting in constant disregard of others and the spirit of the enterprise is not acceptable. Serious disagreements must lead to dialogue. They must be met with restraint and the search for compromise.

By and large, sites that accomplish this do it through social presure and an appeal to reason, not "rules." That said, I am willing to consider Wikipedia-like rules, such as the three-revert limit.

I have taken it upon myself to act in a Wikipedia-ish way here, suspending a user from translation who has not acted in full accord with the spirit of LibraryThing. As often on Wikipedia, the action is social, not technical. Disregard of this constaint will, however, be seen as a serious breach of LibraryThing's Terms of Service.

Tim

I have instituted a Three-Times Rule prohibiting a user from asserting a translation more than three times.

Tim, thank you. That will work.
