I was just looking for some information to fill out Iris Murdoch's reading habits when I came across this in a very broad Google search:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collecting-Curating-Researching-Writers-Libraries/dp/144...
It seems to be newly published. Has anyone got a copy? As a group we get an honorary mention in the description, but I'm more excited about the author's listings for writers' libraries held in academic institutions, and in particular, if there is a listing for Tolkien.

I have a copy - there's lots here, for sure, but the directory is by no means comprehensive.
For Tolkien, they say:
"Note: Tolkien's library was dispersed after his death. Examples (with images) of a few items may be found at: http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/reviews/tolkienownedbooks.htm
Cushing Library, Texas A&M University owns 19 items."

I just noticed that the publisher's blurb for this book Collecting, Curating, and Researching Writers' Libraries: A Handbook mentions LT's Legacy Library program.
Academic collection practices in recent years have extended to the private libraries of notable individual authors. As a consequence, book historians have become more interested in the study of provenance of the contents of these libraries, while literary scholars have devoted more attention to authorial annotations. At the same time, the Internet has encouraged both scholarly and hobbyist reconstructions of private libraries (see, for example, the “Legacy Libraries” on Librarything.com). Although there are many bibliographies and reconstructions of the libraries of authors, this is the first general consideration of these libraries and serves as an introduction to best practices for academic libraries in their acquisition, cataloging and issues of access...
