As for the article, seems a bit depressing; the secretary seems to be making 'he "knew nothing about Liberation Theology, he did not want to know about it."' out to be a good thing. "I exist in a community that wants to discuss an idea with me and don't even want to know what it is" really shouldn't be something to be proud about.

Yeah, I have no opinion on the substance of it. But it doesn't surprise me. Romero and what-Romero-means-to-X were never the same thing.

I have friends who are native Spanish speakers. I don’t think my Spanish is up to it.

The speaker seems anxious to believe Romero was not interested in liberation theology, but that may say more about the speaker than about Romero. I don’t think the appearance of his books gives us enough information to draw a conclusion.
