Hi,
I don't know if there is a source for it but it might be really interesting.
As a child, I lived a few miles away from James Baldwin's house on the Cote d'Azur. I could even have met him on the beach while having a walk with my family, who knows? What I know, though, is that I would love to see what literary treasures my first books had as neighbours (sort of).
What do you think of that idea?

>1 cybertooth: A fantastic suggestion! And what a neat personal connection. I'll do some digging later this week (a bit swamped with other stuff today/tomorrow), but in the meantime, if anyone else wants to take a crack at finding a source, go for it!

I will write to the mayor of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, to see if they have some information.

I'm waiting for a reply from the tourism information office in Saint-Paul.

A little while ago someone posted a link in this group to an article where Baldwin talks about some of the books that influenced him.
There is a well-known photograph of Baldwin in front of some bookshelves, I had a look on Google but I couldn't find a version of it on which the spines of the books are really legible...
There's another one where he's in front of a bookcase full of of (labelled but not quite legible) tapes, but that might have been taken in a radio studio or somewhere.
