An invaluable resource for couples in which one of the partners suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), this authoritative book guides troubled marriages towards an understanding and appreciation for the struggles and triumphs of a relationship affected by it, and to look at the disorder in a more positive and less disruptive way. Going beyond traditional marriage counseling, this discussion offers advice from the author's personal experience and years of research and identifies patterns of behavior that can hurt marriages-such as nagging, intimacy problems, sudden anger, and memory issues-through the use of vignettes and descriptions of actual couples and their ADHD struggles and solutions. This resource encourages both spouses to become active partners in improving their relationship and healing the fissures that ADHD can cause.… (meer)

This is a good book if your spouse has ADHD and your marriage is struggling. I learned a lot as well as my spouse. Where it falls down is that it focuses too much on her marriage experiences and men who have ADHD. If it's your wife with the ADHD, there are behaviors and issues that she doesn't touch (i.e., femininity). ( )

Very insightful on how people with ADD perceive things that non ADD people say...and how non ADD'ers can be hurt by the whole ADD personality. ( )

For the most part, this book assumes that the male in the relationship is the one with ADHD and the female is the organized one. Despite the fact that this was the case for my relationship, I found that I could not relate to much of the book. The author seems to think that all ADHD men who date women act a certain way and places a positive spins on those behavior patterns; sadly, my ADHD love does not fit most of what she talks about, so I was skipping a lot of the parts about how to view ADHD in a positive light. For example, she assumes that the ADHD partner is the more "fun" one -- more social, talkative, and the like -- when in my relationship, that's not the case at all (oops). Most of her advice to the non-ADHD person in the relationship is "stop nagging and remind him in other ways" without actually enumerating upon what those other ways could possibly be; as anyone who has been in a relationship with an ADHD person can attest, any sort of reminders can be misconstrued as "nagging" by the ADHD individual. Though I did relate to and enjoy the chapter on anger in the book, I found the rest of it to be quite repetitive and vague. The book might have scraped by with three stars from me were it not for its excessive use of exclamation points and other indicators of somewhat amateurish writing (the author needs to get an editor, stat).
