I finished this book the other night and failed to realize that there is a Book one. This is not it.
Back to the Basic.

So this story is about Penelope who lives in the prairie all by herself in the 1800s after her husband died. She found and fell in love with Cole who is a time traveler. She basically found him in a state where she nursed him back to health.

I didn’t care too much for Penelope because she just sounded desperately lonely. I want to know more about the time traveler guy because his past sounded bad, yet interesting. Then there was the ending where Cole was once so afraid of someone chasing him and he ended up facing this person without fear... And end up back to where he wanted to be, giving up the one thing that he kept saying will kill him if he's caught with it.

Uh yeah. The feeling was so over-exaggerated haha. Then there’s the Sioux and how Penelope did not understand how to understand the language when she spoke to “Martha” but she could communicate with Martha’s father at the end.

I think I’ll need more convincing by reading the other books in the series.

The first page I liked it...The rest I did not. It fell flat as a story and I could not even hold my attention past the first few pages. I really really could not get into the book nor could I give it more than a one star. I did not like it. I do not know if it was too short or the fact that there was 0 character development or plot. Sorry this one was a no go for me. ( )

There was a lot of potential in this short novel, which, alas, was not realised. It features a young widowed 'mail-order' bride in the USA, at the end of the 19th century. She comes across a seriously dehydrated stranger and nurses him back to health. There's a bizarre twist in that he is a time-traveller... which could have led to a very interesting story. Unfortunately, it seemed almost irrelevant. That theme was really not explored at all.

Moreover, although it started well, the novel needed a lot of editing. Viewpoints switched constantly, sometimes confusingly, and none of the characters were very well developed despite a great deal of reflection and self-talk. The end of the book featured a strangely explicit love scene which was was totally out of keeping with the rest of the book. It was - for some strange reason - categorised as Christian fiction, possibly because a church is mentioned a couple of times.

I downloaded this book free for my Kindle, so perhaps two and a half stars would be fairer; I would have been very disappointed if I had paid for it.

This was an interesting short story. If you like time travel with some romance then this is a great read. This was a free book in the Kindle Store. ( )
