The quilts were beautiful, lushly textured with vivid colors and interesting, eye-catching composition, and while I loved many of the poems---particularly those representing peace as a moment on a river or a stillness beneath noise---I thought some of them were a little preachy. Sure, you can view a snake making friends with his dinner as peace, but think how absolutely unpeaceful it would be if every snake made friends with the mice and rats he was supposed to eat. Peace is a little more multi-faceted than simply no violence, no conflict, no anger. I would've liked to see a few more poems to reflect that. ( ) A must read by all teachers and parents. First the illustrations are a perfect example of a quilt that one puts on their bed. Colorful and bold. Illustration grab the readers attention. Each poem makes a wonderful connection to peace. Peace in the home, peace within our friendships, peace in the water. A single poem can be read to teach students a peaceful lesson. A must read. The theme of peace woven through each poem. This was a sweet poem book where each page featured a quilt--even homemade by Anna Hines herself. The poems concentrated on peace, as the name of the book suggests. These quilts are more detailed and have more complex stitching than the other quilt book. These quilts are unique and so interesting and cover a variety of contexts which pertain to peace. My favorite is "Peace: A Recipe Open minds--at least two./Willing hearts--the same./Rinse well with compassion. /Stir in a fair amount of trust./Season with forgiveness./Simmer in a sauce of respect./A dash of humor brightens the flavor./ Best served with hope." My second favorite is "What If? What if angry words/ vanished like/ soap bubbles/ and punches landed light/ as butterfly kisses?/ What if guns/ fired marshmallow bullets,/ and bombs burst/ into feather clouds/sending us into fits/ of gigles?/ What if/ we all died/ laughing?" geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
