You don't often find a young adult book that is so good. Seamlessly integrates natural history, kayaking skills, archaeology, caving, wildlife biologist job duties into a gripping adventure. With all that Andy has gone through, trying to survive after the wind blows him off course, I really thought the end of the book was finished on p. 155, when he is finally paddling to a place from which he can get home. But wait-- there's more! No end to adventures and mishaps. I do think the last 4 pages were unnecessary, though. Yes, it connects the characters back to their ordinary lives. Yes, it allows the author to celebrate what he hopes will be discovered in the real world. But it was kind of klunky.
Read aloud to my son who was equally excited for the next section--mostly because he loves kayaking. ( )

This book is loaded with actions and mystery. It also contains great historic information. I read this book because of the cover and the description on the back.
