After leaving the den, a baby bear discovers all the different colors of the natural world. Through its action and images, the book also depicts the natural life activities of a bear, such as wading and fishing in rivers, sniffing the meadow air, taking shelter in a cave during a thunderstorm, climbing trees, or just playing and resting in the grass. The fantastic illustrations are made by printing linoleum blocks in black on cover paper. The blocks are then individually colored with watercolor. Baby Bear awakes on fine seasonal morning with his mother only to discover all the many colorful wonders of nature. After a day of exploration, the sky begins to grow dark and the rain begins to fall, a typical spring morning. This story introduces beautiful watercolors that depict the many vibrant colors of nature with gorgeous illustrations. A wonderful springtime story that is a perfect picture book for spring.

Update: I shared it with my toddler story time group and it was a hit. The kids all covered their eyes at the end and saw "deep, soft black" just like baby bear. ( )
