Brandon McKinney has scraped and sacrificed for what little in life he's ever had. Though it's been fifteen years since he escaped his father's abuse, the damage remains. Trust seems as far out of reach as his dream of becoming an architect, and though he's come to accept being gay, he can't deny the shame and confusion he feels at other urges--the deeply-repressed desire to submit.Jonathan Watkins is a self-made Silicon Valley billionaire whose ex-wife took half his money and even more of his faith. Comfortable as a Dominant but wary of being hurt again, he resorts to anonymous pickups and occasional six-month contracts with subs seeking only a master, not a lover. When a sizzling back-alley encounter cues Jonathan in to Brandon's deep-seated submissive side, he makes the man an offer: Give me six months of your life, and I'll open your eyes to a whole new world. Brandon doesn't care about that; all he wants is the three million dollars Jonathan's offering so he can buy the construction company he works for. But he soon learns that six months on his knees is no easy feat, and shame and pride may keep him from all he ever wanted--and all he never dreamed he had any right to have.… (meer)

JUST finished this and still reeling a bit. First let me say that I never thought I would find enjoyment out of reading a story with hardcore TPE in it, but the blurb and having enjoyed works by each author before had me giving this a try. The character building is spot on IMO. I actually rooted for both men to find a way to make it work. There were times that I thought I would/should shy away from what was happening but I found that because I KNEW Bran could walk away at ANY given time I accepted the scenes. This is not for the faint of heart. If you can approach the story with an open mind then you are in for one hell of an emotional ride. ( )

Not an easy read, but oh, so worth it! It definitely pushes my boundaries a bit, made me uncomfortable and not really sure I wanted to keep reading. But I'm so glad that I persevered, because I ended up loving it. On to the next one of the series! ( )

DNF at 53% because my stomach couldn't take it.

Ok, so first thing's first: I've read my fair share of bdsm themed books. Some I've liked, some not so much, and my rating mostly never had to do anything with bdsm itself.
As long as it's sensual and consensual, I have no problem with it. I find it interesting finding out why someone would be into bdsm, as it's something I don't think I'll ever do.

That said, based on what I have learned so far from those books, and what I did read of this book, this is not bdsm. And if I had to call it anything, I would call it pure and simple torture.

It's not sensual, as Bran is conditioned into getting excited when he's getting tied up. Never once during his being "corrected" did he get a stiffie. In fact, during the three beatings I was able to stomach to read, he was in motherfucking agony and wished it to stop. But he didn't think that saying his safe word would make a difference. Plus there was the three million dollars incentive.
Which brings me to the consensual part, and as consensual as it may be (I mean, he does get an opportunity to stop it every now and then), he chooses to keep being beaten and "disciplined", even if he doesn't enjoy it, for money. And that's okay too, I guess, but it's not something I have a wish to read about.

Maybe some readers out there who are into bdsm disagree with me. Maybe they know what the shit I'm obviously missing is, the shit that's making this a 3.72 stars book. And I'd love for them to explain that shit to me. As it is, I won't be finishing this book, and I won't be reading the next one.

4.5 stars. Power Play: Resistance by Rachel Haimowitz and Cat Grant is a very intense, emotionally and physically exhausting read that breaks all the rules in BDSM. To read my review in its entirety, please visit http://www.bookreviewsandmorebykathy.com/2012/04/25/power-play-resistance/ ( )

50 Shades of Gay! Hhahaha, I know, too obvious. BUT, I do honestly believe that was the point behind the Power Play series. Basically a young rich CEO type finds a naive sub type and they dive into a slave contract, reason be damned. Okay, so The Point: 50 Shades of G(r)ay is a terrible, terrible example of a safe/sane/consensual BDSM relationship, and for these reasons:

1. The Dom is the worst Dom ever. Ignoring a safe word because you don't think your sub really means it? Yeah...
2. Money used as coercion, though the people involved don't wanna talk about it.
3. Worst communication skills between two people evar, BDSM or no

But it does know how terrible the relationship within is, and I believe in the second part of the series (which I really want to read) makes it obvious, and the couple try to work it out much better.

TL;DR version: this part of the Power Play series is about a train wreck of a BDSM relationship and it knows it. But the scenes/emotional angst in train wreck like this can be fun!
