Comedy Review: The book is about a pet fly named Buzz that goes along with the family on a long trip. When they stop at a hotel Buzz causes trouble when he takes a bath in a bowl of soup at the restaurant. Comments: I can see why this series is popular with children, it has humor and engaging artwork. The artwork is in a cartoon style that children will enjoy and they will enjoy the humor in it, which will keep them interested as they read the book. The story line and ending are a little silly, which attributes to it's success with children. I feel the book would be enjoyed by boys more than girls. I think this a good book to have in a classroom as a option to read during free reading time. One visual element in the artwork is direction. I liked this book because of two reasons. First, the language was incredibly descriptive at times. For example, on page 15, I know the bowl of soup is small, round, warm and brown all from one sentence! Students reading descriptive text help them become stronger writers and readers with larger vocabularies. Second, the illustrations share helpful insights to the reader from all the signs. For example, on page 3, the hotel sign tells the reader that there is a restaurant and pool at the hotel. Illustrations on page 9 let the reader know that Fly Guy is in the hotels trash and the illustration on page 12 informs the reader that Fly guy entered the restaurant kitchen where only staff is allowed. Yes, this information isn’t pertinent to the book but helps the reader understand and have a stronger comprehension. The big idea of the book is that when an adult tells you something or gives you a direction, such as stay outside Fly Guy, you should listen because there is a reason he or she has asked you to do so. In this particular story, Buzz and his family are going on a trip. As they stop for dinner, Buzz’s parents remind him that a fly cannot go into a restaurant, so Fly Guy will have to eat outside. While deep in a slimy garbage can, Fly Guy is drawn into the restaurant by the wonderful smells. He decides to take a bath in bowl of soup, sparking a chain reaction of flying food. In addition to the other colorful cartoonish illustrations, Fly Guy, with his giant eyes and wagging tongue, is sure to inspire giggles from all ages. As is characteristic of an easy reader, the book is divided into chapters, though each spread contains no more than two sentences, ensuring success for beginning readers. Young readers are certain to enjoy this book and the many books in this series independently as well as read aloud. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
