I didn't think it would be so short... I picked it up because I wanted more of the Kanes ( )

I have let so many reviews slide past me while settling into my new job, so here we have many coming, starting with this one. A tiny sliver of a novella drawing together the main boy characters of Riordan's Egyptian series and his Greek/Roman series, in a way that is wonderfully well done. I loved seeing these two smash into each other with their vastly different ideologies about how the world works and what all they've learned about it.

And I love best that it leaves you wondering if this is only the beginning of what is yet to come. ( )

Exactly the way the first interaction between Carter and Percy should go! It stayed true to their characters: Carter is hesitant to trust this new person and Percy isn't overly aware of how he comes across to others (probably having a completely different impression of their meeting than Carter!). It was exactly in-character and I loved reading every page! ( )

I love Rick Riordan's writing style and characterization. I have always enjoyed mythology and he does a great job of bring any and all mytholgy to life in a fresh and new way. I find the characters to be engaging and to feel really real. His characters feel fresh and diverse without feeling like he makes them diverse just to have diversity. He does not belabor the point of their diversity it just is a fact of who they are and yet anyone who reads his books can feel included in representation. I love how he weaves the mythology into modern times so you feel like you are learning something as you are being entertained. ( )

probably should've read all of the Kan Chronicles before reading this.... but I needed more Percy Jackson so I just couldn't help it haha. Since Percy has a way of summoning Carter, I expect more in the future Rick! Contrasting their perceptions of the world was just great, loved it! ( )
