Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. I loved the story of the book. It kept my interest from the first page - I was hooked when I reached the line, "Elliot had more levels and layers than anyone Dombrowski had ever met." I pretty much live for characters with layers. The set up might have come a little soon and I was stopped in places by the number of adjectives used. I'd advise the author the SOOO worn out trope, "please show don't tell". I did find the story compelling, and that is something for me when reading a .pdf file. I don't like to read long papers on the computer because I am old and stubborn. I'd love to have this in a paper edition. I was not distracted by the fact that there seem to be others in a series. In fact, I'm anxious to get my hands on another volume in the set. A recommended read. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Footprints of a Dancer by Bob Avey was a good read. It kept my interest. It is obvious that there are other books in the series, but enough information was given so that didn't keep me from enjoying the story. The ending got a bit surreal, and there was some ambiguity at the end. I imagine that is for a lead-in to another book in the series. Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. Well, that is not my usual read but then again, I read a lot of different things. It's well paced mystery, easy to read, quite a few twists and turns along the way, with ending free for readers interpretation. I have a weak spot anything concerned Native American and Mesoamerican cultures, so certain aspects of this book made it even more appealing to me. I would like to avoid any possible spoilers for future readers, so I'll end it here. It was a good read. A paranormal story mixed with a historical thread based on the Oklahoma Spiro Mounds Prehistoric American Indian Archeological site. The author used the Spiro Mounds to form a curse. Detective Kenny Elliot is on an unofficial investigation to find his college friends Laura Bradford, who mysteriously disappeared off campus of OK State 8 years before, and Stanley Gerald Reynolds, a journalism student with a fascination for Mezoamerican artifacts. Kenny just saw Laura on the jogging path he runs, and Gerald had called him asking for help with a “problem”. Along the way he meets others who with Gerald, Kenny and Laura formed a group of student ghost hunters. Now, he thinks he has found there is a serial killer targeting the homeless. Riveting and unsettling, but at times difficult to follow the story. Several times I couldn’t follow the alternate-state story because characters would appear unexpectedly and without context. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Most of us come into this world with an inborn need for religion, a higher power to believe in. However, when fear and misunderstanding are the driving forces behind that desire, the result is rarely a good thing. Eight years ago, Laura Bradford mysteriously disappeared off campus, causing quite a disturbance in the lives of Kenny Elliot and Gerald Reynolds, a journalism student with a fascination with Mesoamerican artifacts. When Gerald calls unexpectedly to tell Elliot he's recently seen Laura then sets up a meeting only to be a no-show, Elliot tracks him down to get some answers. Instead, he finds his old friend murdered in ritualistic fashion. Elliot takes a leave of absence from his job as a Tulsa police detective and launches an unofficial investigation, which leads him into the world of an Aztec deity with an appetite for blood. I have stopped and started this book a few times. Unfortunately, it’s a DNF.
