We read this book as part of our Lovers of Paranormal group read. I liked Trinity. I liked her students. I liked her BFF (and wonder if Nicki had a little ... lapse ... with a certain arrogant ... okay ... no more speculation about spoilers for the next book in the series). I adored Malachi. And I adored his Nephilim friends, especially Geremiah and Gideon. The research into Angelic lore was interesting, Malachi and the other Nephilim's inner struggle with their own tainted bloodline felt real, and towards the end I found myself turning the pages muttering, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon because I wanted to hurry up and get to the end to find out what happened.
My only complaint is a nit-picky one ... Azazel as a villain seemed a bit Boris and Natasha. Not so much it ruined the story, but after such a lovely description of the 'good' Nephilim's struggle with their own internal demons, I think the author could have done a better job of fleshing out a motive for Azazel to hate god and his own offspring. Perhaps the next book? New hero? New demon? Maybe go watch 'The Dark Knight,' 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'A Clockwork Orange' to get a feel for that irrationally destructive super-villain?
This series has a ton of potential and I'd like to see what happens with Geremiah and friends in subsequent books.
