I do confess that most of the time this premise does annoy me. Boy meets girl, girl wears a mask, there is kissing and she disappears. When they do meet again, and talk he does not know it's her. I would think at least the voice would do it. Oh well it does bring the drama... Sue is invisible and with the worst mother ever. Trust me, I want to strangle her mother. What a wicked old cow! I am still angry at her and I just want to see Sue walk up to her and give her the finger. Ok ok, moving on. Sue was so sweet, nice, she wanted to do things, wanted to paint, but if you have someone holding you down it's hard. Holden is a rake. And he becomes obsessed with Suzanna after what they have shared. There is a secret in his life that I can't tell, but it does bring some danger. When they meet again they find each other amusing..sort of. She argues with him. But he does one thing later on that made me want to kick him. Bad Holden. Still it all ended happily, of course ;) Oh and there was an intriguing character in it that I hope is in the next book. DESPERATELY SEEKING SUZANNA by Elizabeth Michels is a delightful Regency Historical Romance set in 1816 England. #2 in the "Tricks of the Ton" series, but can be read as a stand alone. See, " Must Love Dukes". Meet, Sue Green, aka, Suzanna, and Lord Holden Ellis and follow them on their Cinderella/Prince Charming moment. You will not be sorry you did. Fast paced from beginning to end. Ms. Michels draws the reader into the story and holds them there to every last sentence. Desperately Seeking Suzanna is a mixture of passion, love, and wit with a bit of fun mixed into the tale. Of course, you have a few secrets, seduction, with a romp through Regency England. Ms. Michels is a talented author and I look forward to her next grand adventure into the TRICKS OF THE TON series. A most enjoyable read! Received for an honest review. RATING: 4.5 HEAT RATING: MILD REVIEWED BY: AprilR, courtesy of My Book Addiction and More 'Her Cinderella Moment' Sue Green is a complicated young woman. Artistic and intelligent, she is ignored because of her sisters' beauty, condemned by her harpy of a mother as unattractive and not worth worrying about. No wonder her rebellious streak rises from time to time. Persuaded by her sisters to crash a masquerade ball, Sue becomes Suzanna for one reckless night of laughter and hanky panky in the library with a reknown rake, Lord Holden Ellis. Holden has his own set of secrets. That one night with Sue has him hankering to track down the mysterious cousin of the Fairly sisters. And here's where it goes awry. Just as the prince never saw Cinderella amongst the cinders, so does Holden never truly see Sue amongst her sisters. As awareness comes, other matters vie for his attention. I'm afraid Holden is quite dense and insulting to Sue in more ways than one. He does indeed break her heart. A regency romp with a difference, although tying your virginal beloved hands to the bedpost on the 'first' occasion seems a tad hasty. I must admit that I want to smack some sense into Holden from time to time as he's really quite thick and self centred. But then again he has a list of wrongs done to him that sets him up for being how he is. I do wish more could have been made of Sue's artistic abilities. Side stories from other Tricks of the Ton novels intrude and our attention is drawn by hints or memories. I still wonder why Holden, when out for a morning ride, ends up racing against a young female person with an auburn braid who ride a astride in breeches--possibly related to Trevor Moore. Certainly Lilian and Mad Lord Thornton are present. We have hints about their story as well but all these whispers seem to crowd the story at tad. I loved Must Love Dukes and here I don't really recognize Lily and Lord Thornton as the characters I adored. They are preoccupied and acting out another story off screen. In fact that's my problem there are fabulous moments and happenings throughout the novel but their linking doesn't flow for me. Still, I really enjoyed the character of Sue and I will continue to read the rest of the series. A NetGalley ARC I really loved this 2nd book in the Tricks of the Ton series. Sue Green was in her 5th season, she decided to have some fun and became Suzanna at a masquerade ball. There she meets Holden Ellis, Lord Stirling by kicking him accidentally on the nose. Holden and 'Suzanna' have a wonderful evening together but then Suzanna disappears. I felt so sorry for Sue, she had no help from her mother she was dreadful, she was for ever telling her how she was not as pretty as her sister and wouldn't buy her any new pretty clothes because it wouldn't make a differences, because she wasn't going to make a good match anyway. Holden was a great hero to stand up for his friend Sue when her mother was being cruel. But I felt a little sorry for Holden when he couldn't understand why Sue kept getting angry at him for no reason, he was a bit slow some times, and Sue' mother kept pushing her sister at him, and to top that his mother reappeared. This book was well written and hard to put down, and I was cheering for Sue and Ellis for an happy ending. 10 out of 10 for this great romance. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
