April Frost is a compassionate young woman with a steady job and ambitious goals. But the harder she runs away from her past, the more it threatens to destroy her. When three strangers enter her life, April is forced to face her demons, and it's a battle she may not win. Private investigators in the Breed world are men who take risks, and Reno Cole is no exception. As a Shifter, he's expected to control his inner animal. But lately his wolf has been venturing dangerously close to the city, and he's about to discover why. When Reno is reintroduced to a family friend, the attraction is immediate. April captivates him with her secretive eyes and resilient spirit. She's also in trouble, and despite the fact that she's a human, Reno can't turn his back on her. April is caught between two worlds: One that threatens to bury her dreams and another that could fulfill them. Can she trust the wolf at her door and find the courage to overcome her demons?… (meer)

I enjoyed this second book in the SEVEN series. April had a hard life, growing up after losing her father young and with a mother who was a drug addict. Now she works as a manager at Lexi's candy shop, but still has a lot of debt dumped on her by her family, and few prospects. I thought she fit well with Reno, who is a private investigator and hard no-nonsense figure. They made a good match. I also am enjoying the way the rest of the brothers develop and looking forward to more of this series. ( )

Listened to audio narrated by Nicole Poole. This was an okay listen, although narrator's use of a high pitched, often whiney voice for April grated after awhile.

April Frost is a quiet, timid lady that's had to overcome a lot of life's troubles. Her mother turned to drugs after her father died and she was left to be raised by her grandmother. After her grandmother died April was saddled with paying off her debts to a variety of loan sharks. April thought she had paid off all her grandmother's debts until two more loan sharks appear on her doorstep for money she doesn't have. One will threaten her and the other will proposition her, both have her making really stupid decisions.

Reno Cole is a private detective, helping to solve Breed crimes. He is also the first born son of his shifter family but his youngest brother is the pack Alpha. This leaves Reno with alpha tendencies he can't fully realize, except for in the bedroom.

I really wanted to like this story but it just sort of meanders around, with transition and pacing problems. The story focuses on April, with very little time with Reno. April comes across as a timid, helpless female in need of saving, and yet never turns to the people around her have the ability to actual help. She tends to make dumb decisions that get her and those around her into even more trouble and danger and it's a wonder she wasn't hurt more than she was in this book. There are a very few moments of chemistry between these two except when they are having kinky sexy times, otherwise the chemistry is almost none existent.

While I like this world, these main characters didn't do it for me. I found myself more interested in Maddox and Trevor and little Maisy.

This book was a tough one to rate. I LOVED Seven years. Austin and Lexi were great. I loved April in this book; I hated Reno. I thought he was a really static character (and kind of a misogynistic a-hole!). See my full review here http://www.thebookdisciple.com ( )

*****SPOILER*******
It seemed to me that there were some story threads that coulda, shoulda, been followed. It seemed possible that Maddox had taken part in making April's fathers' death look like an accident. It also seemed possible that Aprils' father was a Deer shifter. This would have eliminated the restriction that humans and Shifters can not produce children. It also would have given April a potentially longer lifespan. Also a Shifter therapist needs to come on the scene.

Six Months by Dannika Dark (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Nicole Poole
Seven Series #2

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This is the second book in the Seven Series. I was happy to see this was Reno and April's story as I liked their awkward “moment” in the last book.

I found April was a bit too “woe is me” and annoying. The voice the narrator used for her character reflected that - not saying the voice used was so annoying I couldn't listen, just that it was that doe-eyed-flighty-naive kinda voice. Which is fine because that is exactly what April's character is like. I would have felt the same had I "read" her character versus listening, I am sure. She was a good soul and helped wounded animals. I just wished she had more backbone and not seemed to make such odd choices. I ended up asking myself “why would she do that?” too often. I get that she had a hard life.. but sadly she just didn't make the cut for great leading lady in my book.

Reno was a strong quiet lead. I loved that his wolf was drawn to April. He was what she needed in a mate. Someone who would take care of her. He was protective, sexy and generous. I am glad he has his happy ending.

All the supporting characters are great. I am looking forward to Denver’s story (not sure who's is up next.) This is an interesting world they have going on here in Austin Texas.

Nicole Poole the narrator did a wonderful job again. She gets into the roles well, making you forget you are just listening to a story.. feels like you are right in there with the characters.
