She seems to specialize in stories that center around animals, sometimes from the point of view of the animal. These three short stories are told from the point of view of two different hounds that are trained to guard a border against magic smuggling and may be set in the same universe as her Dun Lady's Jess -- the attitude toward magic seems familiar. I enjoyed that story and enjoyed these three short stories as well. They were a quick read and captured what I imagine the dog's point of view would be. The three stories follow on each other and begin telling a larger story, but only begin it, leaving you hanging at the end of the third one. I could see these easily being combined and expanded to make a whole novel. Told mostly from the point of view of the two dogs, it's lightweight but quite fun.
