"Cassie Forrest could almost believe life at Kingdom Come Farm is perfect, with Adrian and her friends at her side and spring on the way. The spring thaw also means millions of defrosting zombies, however, and if the past year has taught her anything, it's that life in this new world is highly imperfect. When Safe Zones throughout the country begin to disappear and the zombies at the fences grow in number, Cassie clings to the hope that if she has the people she loves most, it will be all right. But the highly imperfect world makes only one guarantee--zombies never die, never stop and are never satiated"--Amazon.… (meer)

I am loving this series! I am so thankful that I stumbled upon this series because I am very taken with it. I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead but I don't actively search for zombie books to read (although maybe I should). As I listened to this book, I have found myself comparing it to The Walking Dead but I don't think that is a bad thing since I would expect some similarities. This book was hard to put down and I ended up listening to it for hours at a time and thinking about it at other times.

I do have to tell you that this book broke my heart. More than once. I didn't expect to care about this group of characters as much as I do but it seems like any time they experience something terrible my heart hurts a little bit. In a world with zombies all over the place, there is a a whole lot of horrible going on. There is also a whole lot of good and I love that this book really shows how great people can be during a crisis.

Cassie and her group of friends are living at Kingdom Come. The community at Kingdom Come works well together. They are growing food, canning, and basically doing whatever is needed to support their population. They have even set up a school for the children. Everyone has their assigned jobs and life is about as good as you can make it during the zombie apocalypse.

But things eventually go wrong and Cassie has to learn how to move forward even when she doesn't want to. This book really put me through the wringer at times and just as I started to feel a bit better about things it would crush my heart all over again. There times that I was nervous for the characters, times that I was happy for them, times that I laughed along with them, and times I wanted to let them cry on my shoulder.

I do really like Cassie and her group of friends. The group that we met in the first book are still together and I really feel like I know them at this point. I think it is great how much they are really able to support each other and it is obvious how much they really care for each member of the group. It is really a more positive approach to their situation since they really work together to get through different events.

Julia Whelan does such a great job narrating this series. This book is from Cassie's point of view and she does a fantastic job of capturing all of Casie's emotions during the story. There is a pretty large cast of characters in the book and she handles them all very well. I think that her reading of the story may have added a bit of impact to some of the more intense sections of the book.

I would highly recommend this series to fans of The Walking Dead or zombie apocalypse stories. This was a highly entertaining story filled with wonderful characters trying to not only survive but flourish. I usually take a break between books in a series to stretch things out a bit but I moved straight into the next book in the series once I finished this one because I couldn't wait to spend more time with Cassie and her group. I will definitely be reading more from Sarah Lyons Fleming in the future. ( )

And After by Sarah Lyons Fleming is the second book of an apocalyptic trilogy. The first book, Until The End of the World detailed a world wide catastrophe which saw most people succumb to a flu-like disease, but the real horror was that they rose again after dying. The zombie like creatures craved human flesh and the world quickly became a very dangerous place to live.

A small group of people left New York City and found refuge in a designated safe haven. This farm was one of many scattered throughout the States and Canada. They kept in contact with each other through radio. After a winter that saw many zombies perish because of freezing, the people on the farm were feeling hopeful and actually looking forward to the future. Then slowly each safe haven, starting from the south went dark. Eventually they learn of a huge mass of zombies that have travelled up from South America and Mexico and are spreading across the States. They must make plans to evacuate and to find somewhere to go that the zombies will have difficulty reaching. This book ends just as tens of thousands of zombies show up on the horizon.

I am a fan of zombie fiction and these books hit all the right notes for me. The characters are brave, resourceful and most importantly very likeable. I enjoy reading about the survival techniques they use and, I also enjoy the amount of zombie violence that is part of the story. I look forward to the third volume and finding out what happens next. Again I think the author made this a very real story about what would happen when a apocalyptic event took place. Many don't make it, families are split, fears about the future exist and how many would act when laws no longer mean anything.

Book two in the Until the End of the World series, And After was overall a well written story. There was just enough love, heartbreak, tension and zombies to keep me turning pages until the very end.

I had high expectations after book one. And After gave me everything I'd hoped for and more. I am looking forward to All the Stars in the Sky. ( )

So I'm in to the seventh chapter, and I hear something in this story that gives my heart a hiccup! I'm sure thousands of people have a similar 'thing', but Cassie says that she and Adrian have this thing where they squeeze the other's hands in two quick bursts to day 'I love you" and I melted. My hubby and I do that too- except we give three brief squeezes. I love it- I was like, "We do that too!"

And After, by Sarah Lyons Fleming, is book 2 (technically 3 if you count the novella 'So Long, Lollipop'- /2/2/16) and it begins where Until the End of the World (reviewed yesterday) left off. Cassie and her crew are still at Kingdom Farm/Safe Zone. They're running low on petrol but food seems to still be going strong. It's about living as survivors and the sanctity of Kingdom Farm.

There's a part in this book that disappointed me. So soon in the story, someone dies. Yeah yeah, I know people die during the zompoc, but the person who expires is someone I really liked. Someone who should have lived and made a difference in the tale. I still enjoyed the story and the action is equaled by the actual living of Cassie and the crew, but Dang! LOL
On to the final installment of this series!
