Jaw droppingly amazing!!

Wow talk about a roller coaster ride. I've been reading suspense books for years. Due to this I've become rather adept at figuring out the "baddie" fairly quick. Holy cow did this book come as a welcome surprise. Just when I thought I had it pegged another twist or turn emerged. I was happily shocked that I truly had no clue who it was until the author revealed to the audience. A wonderful cast of characters I hope to get to know better in future books. this book is about family, love and truth....plus the pain that all those elements can bring. If you want to go on an amazing ride then this book is for you. ( )

So in all my eternal wisdom I read the sequel to this before I realized it was #2 in the series so of course I had to come back and read the first one. Kind of sucked seeing as I knew some of what happened...but not when and exactly how.

This story is about FBI Special Agent Deacon Novak and Dr. Faith Corcorban (Frye). Faith is on the run from a stalker who is now out to kill her. He's tried a couple of times in the last month and has killed innocent folks while trying to get to Faith. When Faith's grandmother dies and she learns that she has inherited the old family home, which no one has lived in in over 20 years, she figures it's the perfect spot to hide out and reinvent herself.

She meets Agent Novak and his partner Detective Scarlett Bishop after Faith almost runs over a beaten and naked girl who is standing in the middle of the road out in the boonies. Pretty intense scenes and descriptions of all Arianna's (the naked girl) injuries. (We get a POV from the psycho as to how she gets them and he gets off giving them to her.) From the moment they lay eyes on one another the sparks fly. Faith describes Deacon as a superhero come to life. Sound like he dresses the way Keanu Reeves did in the Matrix....but Deacon has a genetic condition that has turned his hair white and his eyes are two different colors....not one color each eye but each eye is half brown and half blue....would so love to see that. He thought he would freak her out into revealing some info by shocking her with his eyes, she shocks him by calling them beautiful.

Long story short, this is an exciting story of murder and mayhem that has been going on decades and is coming to light by sheer luck and divine intervention? To find out your family is seriously screwed up, secrets long buried rise with the dead bodies found in the basement, and that when our psycho goes off the deep end....that was one hell of a fall! But there are some emotional moments for our lovebirds, one for a brave little girl who has never seen the light of day, and for one of the would be victims who has a spine of steel, courage and conviction.

Having read the second book first I knew some of the side characters but getting the full story of them here...Jeremy, a man disowned by his family for being gay, marries a woman, adopts her two sons, they have a daughter of their own, the finally divorce when he falls in love with his lover and yet they all stay loving with one another. Adam, a man on the edge of an emotional break down and job burn out. Cops sometimes see too much to escape it so what do you do....hmmm? Scarlett finding brothers who were trying to do something good; Stone she gets mad at since he hid important facts from the police. Marcus, she is drawn to since he basically risked his life to protect a strange woman. Deacon's sister Dani, she's a doctor living with HIV and doing her best to make the world a better place.

There is so much to this story that I want to give more detail but don't know that I would ever stop seeing how there is so much packed into this book. Just read it, you won't be sorry you did. ( )

The instant "love/lust" thing was too much. For an almost 700 page book there really needed to be a lot more development of a relationship between characters for it to be believable. Either that, or we need more cynical and jaded FBI agents. ( )
