Yato is a homeless god. He doesn't even have a shrine, not to mention worshippers! So to achieve his ambitious goals, he's set up a service to help those in need (for a small fee), hoping he'll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams. Of course, he can't afford to be picky, so Yato accepts all kinds of jobs, from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies at school.… (meer)

Such a great first installment- I loved reading this! It was an excellent blend of humor, action, monsters, and lore. I’ll definitely be continuing to read Noragami. 👍 ( )

If you are a homeless god, dreaming of having your very own shrine and lots of worshipers, what do you do? You become a god-for-hire, taking any job that comes your way. It’s a nice premise.

Yato the god is extremely arrogant and self-absorbed, with a notable lack of people skills. Is there any character growth in store for him? Hiyori certainly has space for character development, she is a cool person – there just isn’t much for her to do in this volume except to gawk at and discover the “other side” of reality. The art is much better than the story, which is slightly messy and I felt confused at times. But it looks like this was the author’s first project as a sole independent manga creator. I think this manga has potential, so I might try volume 2 at some point and then decide whether to go further or not.

That’s 6/6 of my birthday mangas! ( )

I have watched all of the anime that is currently out for the Noragami series and wanted more, so I decided to read the manga! That being said, I already knew I would love the story and characters. I love the humor in the series, and it carries over well from manga to anime. I really appreciated the bit at the end of this volume on the translation of certain phrases and other possible meanings and an explanation of how it is being used because I know a lot can be lost or changed in translation. It really helped to explain a couple things I had been wondering about, such as where Hanki and Shinki came from. I haven’t seen a manga include this before, and was very excited about it and hope it continues in the later volumes.

I also like that the manga isn’t basically frame for frame the same as the anime because I have read several series that were so similar I didn’t end up finishing the manga. Great introduction to the characters and basic plot line and setting. I love how complex Yato’s character is and can’t wait to see Yukinae’s character develop in the manga. ( )

Guess I'm in the minority. I didn't like this at all. The characters (especially Yani) are unlikeable, the plot is confusing, and the art is messy. I've read reviews that say this is funny, can't see it myself.

Don't continue with the series. ( )
