S. T. Joshi has been a published writer for nearly four decades, and since that time he has amassed an array of books, articles, reviews, and other matter that makes him one of the most prolific critics and scholars in the history of weird fiction. This compilation-jocularly modelled upon August Derleth's "100 Books by August Derleth"-provides a nearly complete bibliography of Joshi's multifarious work. Included are the 200 or more books Joshi has published since his first volume appeared in 1978. These include more than 40 books that he has written, more than 100 editions of the work of other authors, more than 50 editions of the work of H. P. Lovecraft, and other volumes. Joshi also lists all his articles, introductions, reviews, and even his early fiction and poetry (published in periodicals issued during his high school years). The compilation demonstrates Joshi's wide-ranging work as critic, editor, and scholar. He has prepared editions of the work of nearly every major author of weird fiction, including Lord Dunsany, Ambrose Bierce, Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, and more recent writers such as Ramsey Campbell. We also learn of Joshi's extensive publications outside the realm of weird fiction, including scholarship on race relations ("Documents of American Prejudice") and atheism. In his introduction, Joshi provides an encapsulated overview of his literary career. This dynamic writer, born in India in 1958, continues to be productive and hopes to live long enough to compile "300 Books by S. T. Joshi" in due course of time.… (meer)
