Librarian Minnie Hamilton spreads the joy of reading throughout Chilson, Michigan, with her bookmobile, but she doesn't ride alone. Her rescue cat, Eddie, and a group of volunteers are always on board to deliver cheer-until one of her helpers gets checked out for good . . . When Minnie loses a grant that was supposed to keep the bookmobile running, she's worried her pet project could come to its final page. But she's determined to keep her patrons-and Eddie's fans-happy and well read. She just needs her boss, Stephen to see things her way, and make sure he doesn't see Eddie. The library director doesn't exactly know about the bookmobile's furry co-pilot. But when a volunteer dies on the bookmobile's route, Minnie finds her traveling library in an even more precarious position. Although the death was originally ruled a hunting accident, a growing stack of clues is pointing towards murder. It's up to Minnie and Eddie to find the killer, and fast-before the best chapter of her life comes to a messy close . . .… (meer)

I love [b:Borrowed Crime: A Bookmobile Cat Mystery 3|22859785|Borrowed Crime (A Bookmobile Cat Mystery, #3)|Laurie Cass|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1408309032s/22859785.jpg|42427679] by [a: Lauri Cass|7025913|Laurie Cass|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. This is the third in the series, and I have read them all. I have the fourth one on hold via our Overdrive system at the library.

It is easy to relate to main protagonist Minnie Hamilton. She followed her goal to create a bookmobile program. It is more than just the gap for lost library services in their small county in Michigan. Adopted cemetery cat Eddie is intelligent and a purr-fect addition to the Bookmobile route.

The legitimacy of the struggles for library funding runs through this series. Minnie has to prove the necessity of library services. It is an issue that speaks to those of us who are librarians.

This is a clean and cozy mystery that is suitable for any age reader. I hope this series continues. There are many directions the characters and story line can go.

Bravo! ( )

I like this series, the characters are pleasant, the heroine is short and spunky and goes out of her way to be nice and help people. The mysteries are interesting and the solutions are not easily guessable or come out of left field. But the best thing about the series is that it really is about the library, a large part of the book either takes place in the library or the bookmobile, and that makes me very happy. Libraries make me very happy so I always look to read series about libraries, bookstores anything to do with books. I'll be reading the book in this series very soon. ( )

Librarian Minnie Hamilton and her Bookmobile Cat, Eddie, return in this 3rd book in the Bookmobile Cat Mystery series.

Let's just get this out of the way first thing: I love this series. It ranks right at the top of my "must read'' list of cozy mystery series.

Why? Minnie is an endearing main character. She is a mix of funny, emotional, sweet and feisty. Her almost irrational fear about her boss Stephen discovering she brings her cat along on Bookmobile days just makes me smile. Eddie is an awesome cat and has his fans waiting to see him at each Bookmobile stop. His constant kitty-speak "mrr'' in reply to Minnie (or "MRRRR!!" if he wants attention right now) is just awesome. Eddie is all cat. He isn't portrayed as magical, paranormal or anything other than Minnie's best buddy, who also has a knack for finding clues or helping Minnie as she works to ferret out a killer.

The basics: In Borrowed Crime, just as Minnie starts to panic about finding funding for the Bookmobile, the problem becomes even more serious. A volunteer along on a Bookmobile run is shot to death outside a gas station. Suddenly the library is being sued for negligence. Plus, the library board might terminate Minnie's employment and shut down the Bookmobile. Minnie is on the case once again, working to discover if the shooting was a mere hunting accident or murder.

The mystery portion of the plot was well written and paced. There are some interesting subplots and changes in the main characters in this third installment of the series. No spoilers! :) I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens to all my favorite citizens of Chilson, Michigan!

There are five books in the Bookmobile Cat Mystery series. A sixth book is scheduled for publication in July, 2017.

When Minnie’s bookmobile volunteer can’t make her appointed run, she sends her husband instead. Unfortunately, he is shot during the trip, in a convenience store parking lot. Many questions are raised. Was it a hunting accident? Was he the intended victim of an intentional murder? Or was another person, maybe his wife, the intended target? To save her job and her beloved bookmobile, Minnie must answer these questions. It’s gets personal when she is put in harm’s way, but it gets really personal when Eddie, her cat, is endangered. It’s nonstop action in this delightful cozy, with Eddie leading the way. ( )

Minnie Hamilton, assistant director of a northwestern lower peninsula Michigan library, runs its bookmobile services, relying on volunteers or off-duty staff member volunteers to be the second person on outings. Her cat Eddie goes along, especially charming schoolchildren. When Denise Slade can't make it on her day, she sends her husband Roger in her place. When the bookmobile stops for a restroom break, Roger is shot. Was it a hunting accident? or was Roger, or even his wife Denise, the target? His sister wants to sue the library, but Minnie, realizing her job is in jeopardy, knows she must assist the officials in catching the killer. With one of the normal officers off, a new officer assists in the investigation. He shows an interest in Minnie but doesn't realize she's been dating Tucker. Tucker has been making lots of excuses lately about not spending time with Minnie. Is he seeing another woman? As one might expect in this series, the cat helps nab the killer. It was a pleasant outing. The killer wasn't completely obvious, but most readers might suspect the person early. At one point Minnie looks through some records that eliminate a suspect, but the author does not share what she saw that eliminated him--just provided evidence that the glance eliminated him. The reader can somewhat figure out what she found by the questions she asked about the records, but since it was knowledge possessed by Minnie, providing details would clarify matters for readers. This pleasant read is perfect (or is it purrfect?) for a day when something light and fun appeals. ( )
