A very nice juvenile fantasy, involving contemporary pre-teens and Greek gods. It does not have the depth of, say, Harry Potter books, but nevertheless, is a well told fantasy adventure for kids that adults wanting a quick, fun read, could well enjoy. ( )

I consider a movie adaptation of a book successful if the movie's intriguing enough to make me pick up the book.

Lightning Thief delves into Greek mythology in a new way. You're not punished for not knowing everything about mythology. If you know enough, you're given clues as to which god you're going to encounter next, but if you're clueless, it's an exciting adventure as you turn each page.

The plot's a little predictable, but I excuse that as the writer doesn't use a condescending tone with his audience.

My husband and I liked both the movie and the book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. ( )

It was good, exciting and fun. It wasn't Harry Potter, but I enjoyed it. It was interesting how the Greek mythology was used and explained throughout the book. It brought the characters to life in our world. ( )

The book is about a twelve year old boy, who is ADHD and Dyslexic, who learns he is the son of a god. One of the 'big three' to be exact. After he finds out he is a demigod, he is sent on a quest, along with two friends, to retrieve Zeus' master bolt from the Underworld. The journey to the underworld isn't an easy one though.

'The Lightning Thief' was great paced, magical and adventurous. I have always loved Greek Mythology, so this book was a must read for me. The book was better than the movie, but they usual are. 'The Lightning Thief' is definitely one of my new favorites. ( )

A cute story. I was hooked by its humor and action the moment I finished the first book and I just HAD to read the other books.

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
