Travel along during a trip of Women's empowerment as Sacajawea leads Lewis and Clark through new lands. ( ) I have learned about Sacajawea over my years in school, but never in this much detail as I read. I did not know about her family she had and that she was reformed Native American that would take on the society that our government forced upon her people. I found the stories interesting to read and informative. I would love to have these books available for my classroom and my daughter to read as they are women who broke the rules and left marks in history. Sacajawea was an Indian woman who took part in the historical expedition with Lewis and Clark. They were discovering new land recently obtained in the Louisiana Purchase. They came across many obstacles such as ship wrecks, bad weather, illnesses, and limited food supply. Sacajawea was especially helpful when they met other Indian tribes along the route. She would tell the men to paint their faces red, a symbol of peace. She was very knowledgeable about the varieties of foods in the different areas such as: artichokes, wild berries, roots and fish. Their exhausting journey was rewarded with the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. She is remembered has a patient, calm women in times of hardship. I enjoyed learning more information about Sacajawea that I did not previously know. First and foremost, I love the title of the series, "Women who broke the rules." I had not previously known very much about Sacajawea, but I definitely enjoyed the way this book portrayed her. Although there isn't much public record or any record of her writing about herself, it still does a very good job of telling as much as possible with the information given. The way the book read sounded as if someone was reading the information aloud to you. I never knew that she was so young when the mission had happened. I never knew she had a child. I also learned that despite what statues and pictures of what she has been perceived as didn't match how she actually was. She was described as a very calm woman. Its unfortunate that her time and cause of death is unknown due to lack of record at that time with the Shoshone tribe and others that she encountered through her life. overall, I really enjoyed the book and it was very informative. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"Sacajawea was only sixteen when she made one of the most remarkable journeys in American history. She traveled over four thousand miles by foot, canoe, and horse-all while carrying a baby on her back! Without her, the Lewis and Clark expedition might have failed. Two hundred years later, we still can see how her unique journey demonstrated the strength and value of women"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
