Despite the fact that the story was pretty predictable and the cover was misleading, I still enjoyed reading Diplomatic Immunity. Piper Baird's family has fallen on hard times, and Piper sees no way that she can have her dream of going to Columbia University, until she wins a journalism scholarship to prestigious Chiswick Academy. Now the Bennington Scholarship is within her grasp, but only if she can come up with an amazing story that will help her win it. She finds the perfect topic in the DIs or students at Chiswick with diplomatic immunity who seem to never be held accountable for their actions. Complications occur when Piper begins to fall for her main subject, the Spanish Ambassador's son, Rafael Amador. Will she betray him by publishing a story containing all of his secrets, or will she explore her relationship with him. The answer to that question is foreshadowed so much in the book that there really isn't a question left by the time the climax is revealed in the story.
Overall, however, I liked the story. I liked Piper and her ability to make her lack of filter into an asset. As the story unfolds, and we learn more and more about Raphael's family and his background, some of his actions start to make sense. Strictly romance, but a good quick read with interesting characters. ( )

A bit too much politics for my personal taste. And as usual for contemporary books, the ending was much too abrupt.

Unfortunately, I just didn't like this as much as I wanted to. ( )

I started this book late at night, expecting to read a few chapters before I would get tired and eventually lay down to sleep. Instead, I started page one and didn't stop reading until I was on page 368 (otherwise known as the end).

Don't get me wrong, because I would be lying if I said the book had no faults. However, I happen to believe that the faults the book had were minor when it came to the entire experience. I think that my biggest issue with the book was how rushed the ending was. It was like I blinked and the story's turning point, climax, falling action, and conclusion all happened before I re-opened my eyes. Additionally, I had some issues with certain characters. Specifically, I had a love-hate relationship with the protagonist. One second I would be contemplating putting the book down while the next I would be laughing out loud at something she said. I'm still not entirely sure if I loved her or hated her, but I can definitely say I enjoyed reading about her.

Overall, and in spite of its negative aspects, this book really gave me the breath of fresh air that I needed. I was able to wind down and simply enjoy the story I was reading, which was exactly what I was looking for when I picked the story up. I really enjoyed the time I spent with it. 4/5 stars!

P.S. I'm really loving Brodi Ashton's books! I'm excited to pick up more of her work! ( )

Super cute! I loved Piper's wit and humor and Raf's adorableness and sense of mischief. ( )

I really wanted this to be good.

The premise sounded incredible. I love reading about uncovering corruption and rich kids being awful. Plus, that cover is absolutely gorgeous.

What I got was a typical YA love story - instalove, easy forgiveness, six-pack abs and rather shallow characterization. Piper claimed to focus on her journalism, but everything was Raf, Raf, Raf. One of the major plot conflicts - the Bennington Scholarship - was resolved in one quick line near the end.
