In addition to the titular story and its original version (rather different in most aspects except the skeleton structure of the story), the volume collects P. Craig Russell's illustration and inking work on other Marvel fantasy stories in the same era (i.e. mostly Doctor Strange, but also a Scarlet Witch / Spider-Man story and several short horror tales). This makes it a bit tough to rate, as these selections by their vary nature will be a bit erratic, being fetched from ongoing continuities without any preamble or postscript to tie up the loose ends intended for those who read them as part of the ongoing storylines. Russell also only being the inker on many of them, his creative impact doesn't always seem immediately apparent.

But their dated nature aside, the individual issues are OK enough reads, and the titular story (as well as its original version) is a fun, tragic fairy tale with Russell's and Doctor Strange's trademark evocative and imaginative surrealist vistas in beautiful combination. ( )
