Eleven year old Clara lives on a farm in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl. She loves living on the farm and taking care of the farm animals. Clara can deal with the farm chores, but what she struggles with the most is her overprotective father. Summary: Dust Storm is a Historical Realism Picture book by Jane McKellips. This book is about a dust storm that happened during the 1930s. This storm caused severe and extended drought that struck the Southwest and central plains. A girl named Clara is an eleven-year-old girl who lives in an Oklahoma farm.
Personal Reaction: I enjoyed reading this because my Great Grandma used t talk to me about her personal experience in the dust storm.
Classroom Extension
1: we could have the students draw what they thought dust storm looked like.
2: we could actually read the book and ask questions over it.
3: we could make our own miniature dust storm. (
