They are called the Orang Pendek, masters of the steamy Sumatran rain forest. Henrik Kooper watched his father die at the brutal hands of the orange-haired ape men. Having barely survived helping twins Natalie and Austin McQueen discover and destroy the beasts lurking in Loch Ness, it's now his turn for vengeance. Within the treacherous jungles of Sumatra lies the fabled lost city of Gadang Ur. Its secrets are guarded by a savage band of Orang Pendek who lord over the strange and deadly creatures of the hidden land. Utter madness is the lifeblood of Gadang Ur. Henrik's journey into darkness will take them to the ragged edge of hell on Earth. Some places were never meant to be discovered. Edge of your seat suspense and fast paced action!

A small backstory:

Welcome to the Jungle! The twins (Natalie and Austin) are back in another adventure that takes them along with their friend Henrik deep into the jungles of Sumatra. They are wanting to discover an ancient city that might or might not exist, but getting there is not going to be a walk in the park.

The jungle is ruled by orange ape men along with some other fascinating animals that I wasn't expecting as I started reading the book. This is not the normal jungle with lions, tigers, and bears as there are other more dangerous creatures roaming the deep dark areas of the jungle.

The book moves quickly and I love the characters more in this book as I have become attached to them. There are some quip one liners that Natalie throws out there that made me chuckle through out the book. There is plenty of action from the first chapter all the way to the end!

The twins thought that their last adventure in "Loch Ness Revenge" was a harrowing experience, but they come to realize that the Loch Ness was a birthday party compared to what they have to endure in the jungle!

I was on pins and needles throughout most of the book as I didn't know what was going to happen next. Four "Jungle Ape" Stars! ( )

4.5 stars....

Another fun, action-packed addition to the Tales of the Crypto Hunter series! I absolutely love the characters in this series-Natalie, Austin & Henrik, so I'm really hoping Shea brings them back for a third cryptid creature hunt.

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advanced reading copy of this book.

Natalie and Austin McQueen set off on another adventure following on from their revenge on good ole Nessie. Like Loch Ness Revenge it's one that's not to be taken too seriously and just enjoyed for what it is. It's a fast, fun, and easy read. It's every bit as enjoyable, humorous, fast paced, and as cheesy as the previous instalment, with lots of madness, creatures, action and adventure.

Well worth a read. ( )

I have yet to read a book by Hunter Shea that I do not like. There are definitely very few authors I like who are in that category. I have always loved the idea of living creatures unknown to science so "Savage Jungle: Lair of the Orang Pendek" was right up my alley.
Natalie and Austin McQueen are just getting over their adventurous trip to Scotland to find the Loch Ness Monster when they are asked to help Henrik Kooper find and destroy the creatures who killed his father right in front of his eyes. They agree to help him because he assisted them with the creatures in Scotland so they are off to Sumatra to face more creatures that scientists do not believe exist.
I love how Hunter Shea sets the scene in his books. I felt as if I were in the jungle along with Natalie, Austin, Henrik. He describes the oppressive heat, and almost claustrophobic atmosphere so well. I have not read the first book in this series, "Loch Ness Revenge" but that is the amazing thing about Hunter Shea. His books can be read as stand alone novels as well. Highly recommended! ( )

Review copy

Fresh from their adventure in Scotland, Natalie McQueen, and her brother Austin are called upon to aid Henrik Kooper in his quest to find the lost city Gadang Ur and the elusive Orang Pendek. Go ahead and google it. You'll find it's every bit as much of a thing as Bigfoot, Yeti, The Jersey Devil, and The Loch Ness Monster. All cryptids Hunter Shea has written about in previous books. As a matter of fact, Savage Jungle is a sequel to his book Loch Ness Revenge.

Ah, yes Loch Ness Revenge, it's where Natalie and Austin called upon the services to Mr. Kooper knowing that one day they would join him in revenging the death of his father in the rain forests of Sumatra. In Savage Jungle that debt has come due and it just might costs them their lives.

"He didn’t know what they were. They appeared human, but they also bore a strong resemblance to apes or orangutans. Except they walked perfectly upright, with broad shoulders and small heads. "

"The Orang Pendek were fast and brutal and most of all, intelligent.

“If I decide to write a book about this, no one will ever publish it. It’s just way too out there.”

The writing is crisp and clean. It's a breeze to read Unrelenting horror with just a touch of humor. You've got to read Savage Jungle just to see how the movie Cool Hand Luke plays a part in the story. No one does monster horror better than Hunter Shea. A wonderful roller-coaster ride full of surprises.

Although Savage Jungle is a sequel, it works as a stand-alone novel. Needless to say, I loved the hell out of this book. Recommended.

Savage Jungle is published by Severed press and is available in both paperback and e-book formats. If you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited you can read it at no additional charge. Also, if you are an Amazon Prime member you can read it for FREE using the Kindle Owners Lending Library.

From the author's bio - Hunter Shea is the product of a childhood weened on The Night Stalker, The Twilight Zone, and In Search Of. He doesn't just write about the paranormal - he actively seeks out the things that scare the hell out of people and experiences them for himself.

Hunter is an amateur cryptozoologist, having written wild, fictional tales about Bigfoot, The Montauk Monster, The Dover Demon and many new creatures to come. Copies of his books, The Montauk Monster and The Dover Demon, are currently on display in the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, ME.

Living with his wonderful family and two cats, he's happy to be close enough to New York City to get Gray's Papaya hotdogs when the craving hits. His daughters have also gotten the horror bug, assisting him with research, story ideas, and illustrations that can be seen in magazines such as Dark Dossier. ( )
