An unusual book, Michael J. Knowles “Reasons To Vote For Democrats” is unique in its appeal to conservatives and independents alike. In a contentious political world, it is refreshing to find an objective exposé of the “other side’s” motivations and rationales. It is an exposé that both humanizes and defines the cultural differences framing our “binary choice” elections and debates. Free of the cultural fog enveloping contemporary discourse, “Reasons” enumerates the well-grounded facts, figures and intentions forming the foundation of the present day Democratic Party and its adherents. In doing so, “Reasons” sheds light on not only the doggerel chants featured endlessly on the evening news and campus safe spaces but also why chanting is the is the preferred vehicle of Democratic political discourse. It soon becomes apparent how simple chanting is used to great effect and why it fits hand in glove with Democrats in general and college students in particular.
