I borrowed this book from a friend, and it was my first Mary Higgins Clark book. I must thank my friend for lending it to me. I really enjoyed it. Ms. Higgins Clark's writing style is spare and direct. Her characters are very well-drawn, and she ratchets up the suspense all the way through. I loved the setting of this book - Cape Cod in the late summer. Ms. Higgins Clark's descriptions of the area are very realistic, and it brings the scene to life. In this book we have a young family who have recently experienced a horrendous loss. Menley has been carrying her guilt for the death of her small son. With a new baby in her arms, she has many occasions to question her sanity, but above all she knows that she will do anything it takes to protect her infant, Hannah. We have ancient history from the early 18 century joined with the present day and star-crossed lovers and nefarious villains in both time frames. Add what appears to be a haunted house with its own secrets to keep, and you have a real page-turner of a book. Menley being a popular children's books writer and illustrator added to the scrumptiousness of this book. I may have to check out some of Ms. Higgins Clark's extensive backlist. Sometimes you just need to escape. ( )

I had never read Mary Higgins Clark before but reading her obituary I read about Remember Me set mostly in Chatham, MA, which prompted me to pick up the book. I'd consider the book a cozy mystery--very little blood and guts. But I liked most of the characters and the regular and maritime history of Cape Cod that Clark threw in was interesting. That's the part that really kept reading. The grand old Captains houses with secret rooms. The thought that spirits from Colonial times might inhabit the houses, hoping maybe to clear their names or keeping guard over the houses and their occupants, should they be worthy.

While I'm not likely to pick up another Mary HIggins Clark book soon, I really did enjoy this one. ( )

From experiencing it as an abridged audiobook, I'd assess this work as an above average mystery, with Gothic elements. Having lost her young son in a tragic accident, protagonist Menley Nichols moves with her husband Scott and her infant daughter to a house on Cape Cod. There she begins to doubt her sanity, as she relives the train accident that claimed her son and hears his voice calling to her. Meanwhile, her husband, a criminal attorney, has taken on a client (Adam) who is accused of murdering his fiancé. These separate elements become woven together in imaginative ways that I never anticipated. The abridged audiobook seems to do the work justice, and suggests the full novel to be worthwhile as a bit of escapism. ( )

set on Cape/Chatham old Sea Captain's house food @ legends + mystery

Unable to forgive herself for the death of her two-year-old son Bobby in a car accident, Menley Nichols' marriage to Adam starts to fall apart - until the birth of their daughter Hannah. Determined to rebuild a life together around their precious baby, Menley and Adam decide to rent a house on Cape Cod for a month, confidant that the tranquility of the place will be ideal for Menley and little Hannah. But the peace they crave is disturbed when strange things start to happen - incidents which make Menley relive the horror of the accident in which she lost Bobby... incidents which make her fear for Hannah.

A spooky murder mystery set in Cape Cod. A lawyer takes a vacation at the Cape but then ends up taking on a high profile murder case. His wife is still trying to get over the loss of their two year old son. She keeps reliving the night she lost her son and is now worried about her baby Hannah. She tries to tell herself she is ok and immerses herself in writing a children's book set in the early days of the Cape. The book ends with climatic twist on a stormy night. ( )

Clark last ventured into similar gothic terrain in The Anastasia Syndrome. While that experiment was only partially successful, Remember Me pulls it off brilliantly, harkening back to the best of Daphne DuMaurier.
