I am feeling the true importance of pairing a memoir with other non fiction on a topic. This book gave my reading of The New Jim Crow more depth and personal struggle with the realities of a criminal justice system that more strongly effects black boys and men and the mentally ill. ( ) This book was an excellent read and even more powerful than I expected. Hearing her life story and all that led to her activism was extraordinary. I am in awe of her passion for upholding the marginalized communities of color. It is such important work but heartbreaking work and even dangerous work when going against the status quo. The title of the book gives you an idea of what they are up against but it is not only a fight worth fighting but also one that is paramount for making our country the country it should be. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
