Excellent, fast read..T J Brearton is an author I will add to my must read list. ( ) 3.5 star rating If you are ever out for an early morning run and come across something out of the ordinary, then give it a wide berth, a very wide berth! Katie should have done then she wouldn’t have been bundled into a van and driven off. A great, exciting read from the very first page, told from the victim’s and leading policeman’s point of view. Definitely fast paced and the pages race past in a blur as we wait to see whether or not Katie will get through her terrifying ordeal and how the police etc try to locate her. A bit gory in parts but par for the course for a thriller of this type. A great holiday read, but maybe not if you intend walking through the wilderness! Out for her usual early-morning run, Katie Calumet hears a baby crying. She sees no one, but she’s not alone. Everything goes black; she awakens bound and blindfolded. Detective Justin Cross investigates, but the trail leads into the dense forest and finding Katie becomes a difficult challenge, especially when her family is keeping secrets. As Katie fights to escape and find her way home, Justin works to find the kidnappers, and teams of volunteers comb the forest. Can they find her in time? The story, alternately focusing on Katie and on the investigation, offers readers well-crafted characters and a well-drawn, vivid setting. Plot twists and unexpected events help to create mounting tension. However, the improbability of Katie’s husband being so intimately involved in the investigation may be difficult for readers to accept. In addition, the author sullies the telling of the tale with the unnecessary use of gratuitous crude language that does nothing to further the story or to develop a character. Readers are likely to find it particularly off-putting and increasingly annoying. *SPOILER ALERT!* First of all, a huge thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for introducing me to this awesome book! The thing that made me request this book was it's absolutely awesome cover, fused with an interesting and catchy title. I read half of the blurb before clicking on the request button. I had high hopes for this book and it did not let me down. My favorite thing about this book was that half of the book focused on Katie's struggles. Usually, similar books focus on the investigator and the victim's family and even the kidnapper but rarely on the victim. Gone Missing shows Katie not as the victim but the hero. The way she survived more than 2 weeks in the woods, and also managed to keep her baby safe, was awe-inspiring! Gone Missing showcased some awesome characters, like Justin Cross who wouldn't give up and David Brennan who had enough faith on Katie to know she'd survive. And as David said, I too was there just to give them company through this journey of their and every step was full of suspense and intrigue. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
