Fiction. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:Bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Scottoline reaches new heights with this riveting novel about how a single decision can undo a family, how our past can derail our present, and how not guilty doesn't always mean innocent.
Allie Garvey is heading home to the funeral of a childhood friend. Allie is not only grief-stricken, she's full of dread. Because going home means seeing the other two people with whom she shares an unbearable secret.
Twenty years earlier, a horrific incident shattered the lives of five teenagers, including Allie. Drinking and partying in the woods, they played a dangerous prank that went tragically wrong, turning deadly. The teenagers kept what happened a secret, believing that getting caught would be the worst thing that could happen. But time has taught Allie otherwise. Not getting caught was far worse.
Allie has been haunted for two decades by what she and the others did, and by the fact that she never told a soul. The dark secret has eaten away at her, distancing her from everyone she loves, including her husband. Because she wasn't punished by the law, Allie has punished herself, and it's a life sentence.
Now, Allie stands on the precipice of losing everything. She's ready for a reckoning, determined to learn how the prank went so horribly wrong. She digs to unearth the truth, but reaches a shocking conclusion that she never saw comingâ??and neither will the reader.
A deeply emotional examination of family, marriage, and the true nature of justice, Someone Knows is Lisa Scottoline's most powerful novel to date. Startling, page-turning, and with an ending that's impossible to forget, this is a tour de force by a beloved author at the top of her ga

Have enjoyed many of Lisa Scottoline's books, but this one didn't do it for me. Too many uncomfortably disfunctional characters and situations. Took a break after reading a bit and read some of the posted comments. Many indicated a lack of believability resulting in disappointment with the ending. Decided not to continue reading. ( )

When I saw that part of this book is set in the late 90's, it was pretty much an instant yes for me. I guess I'm just a sucker for anything nostalgic.

This book shook me a little. It's freaking depressing, guys. A kid dies for literally NO reason and everyone who was involved has a shitty life after that. I know that most unnatural deaths are meaningless, but this one really hit me hard. Why did I read 400 pages just to come away with: What a waste that all was.

Another thing that puzzled me was the BIG BAD. The theme of this book seemed to be that life isn't black and white-- there are grays when it comes to who is at fault and what is good and bad. The thing is, the villain in this book was overly evil. I didn't need the author to make the villain so villainy that I had zero doubts about his/her evilness. I don't think this book needed a villain like that. I think the event that happened brought up a lot about culpability and guilt-- it didn't need a serial killer to bring it together.

This is a book of alternating POV chapters, which I like... and I did like it when it was only the 4 main players giving their POV. At some point, there were the POVs of the parents and spouses too. It started to get confusing, and I think it would've been better just sticking to the main characters.

Putting all of that aside, I didn't hate the book. I just didn't like being so depressed either.

OVERALL: Depressing. Days later I'm still thinking about how this whole book was about a meaningless, senseless death and how I wish I didn't read about it.

I haven't read a bad book by her as yet and this one was no exception.

It was a good mystery about 4 kids who only knew each other from their neighborhood when they were 15 years old. It evolved into secrets that they swore they would never tell the police or anyone.

It started out in the present, and then went to the past. It evolved into 20 years later and it all came out with a shocking twist and ending. ( )

This book does not deserve 3 stars, and I felt guilty only allotting 2 stars. This book started out well but fell apart about halfway through the novel. I was disappointed with the author. ( )

I was up-and-down with this book. It grabbed my attention immediately but slowly let it taper off. Then the story would start picking up again only for everything to just slow down again.
All of the kids were pretty bratty and spoiled, but we did not get to really know the one character we should have felt for the worst. Overall I think the story could’ve been shorter, as there were parts that just seem to never end or kept being repeated. A lot of repetition. The twist at the end it was pretty awesome though. I did not see that coming. ( )

Someone Knows by Lisa Scottoline is a dark suspense read that grips you from the first moment. I felt the character's guilt immediately. Something really bad had happened. Regret, guilt, and the haunting past keeps haunting the remaining characters from that one night. The tone and mood of this tale read like The Pretty Little Liars novel. They was something that kept the characters from seeking help. Always forced to keep everything secret, yet little by little it eats them whole. Tearing away what little strength they have left. It drives them crazy. Almost to the point of finally wanting to rid of the secrets of that night.

This book was mostly a suspenseful mystery. There was a touch of drama but not enough of it like similar reads. The pages kept me hooked. I kept wondering when the secrets would be told and how it would explode upon those that suffered. Overall, Someone Knows was a captivating read. I recommend it to others.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
