Okay so trade disputes, water worlds and too many fucking snakes may sound like a hard sell. BUT HEAR ME OUT . . . I really loved the action scenes and I am such a sucker for enemies-to-friends-to-lovers-&-confidants tales. I could def. use more steamy scenes - that't totally a personal preference - BUT the action and intrigue held my attention! This is my favourite fantasy book! ( tied with the SoC duology) Here's a couple of reasons why : - Enemies to Lovers - Forced Marriage/ Arranged Marriage - Badass / spy Female MC ( no seriously , the first chapter made my jaw DROP) - Excellent Visuals ( Worldbuilding is A ) - Murder , poison , knives AND snake bites “A king should rarely take a compliment at face value. Sycophants, and all that.” Normally when I start a new fantasy series ( or standalone ) it takes time for me to get acclimatized to the new world which the book drops me into ( much like Alice in Wonderland) but with TBK, the transition is flawless and I basically went to a book-trance ( this is the word for when you are so hooked on the book that you forget that your actually reading and not daydreaming the whole plot). It was a fast paced read filled with Action and Romance. Overall The Bridge Kingdom is everything I look for in a fantasy novel : excellent writing , a compelling story and a phenomenal enemies-to-lovers romance geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

"What if you fell in love with the one person you'd sworn to destroy? Lara has only one thought for her husband on their wedding day: I will bring your kingdom to its knees. A princess trained from childhood to be a lethal spy, Lara knows that the Bridge Kingdom represents both legendary evil - and legendary promise. The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom controls all trade and travel between lands, allowing its ruler to enrich himself and deprive his enemies, including Lara's homeland. So when she is sent as a bride under the guise of fulfilling a treaty of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture the defenses of the impenetrable Bridge Kingdom. But as she infiltrates her new home - a lush paradise surrounded by tempest seas - and comes to know her new husband, Aren, Lara begins to question where the true evil resides. Around her, she sees a kingdom fighting for survival, and in Aren, a man fiercely protective of his people. As her mission drives her to deeper understanding of the fight to possess the bridge, Lara finds the simmering attraction between her and Aren impossible to ignore. Her goal nearly within reach, Lara will have to decide her own fate: Will she be the destroyer of a king or the savior of her people?"--Back cover. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

But as Lara becomes a part of Ithicana in order to destroy it, she's beginning to question everything she believes about the two kingdoms she's connected to. Will she fulfill her mission? Or will her loyalty be to Ithicana and its King?
"The Bridge Kingdom" has great world-building, likeable characters, political schemes, and--you guessed it!--romance.
I listened to the audiobook on the off-chance that I might like it, and I was surprised when I found a gem. Although it's high fantasy, there is no magical element to the story. It's set in a world completely different than ours with its own kingdoms, cultures, and politics. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but I've started the second book and I can already tell I'm going to love it even more than the first. I'm excited to have a new fantasy series to explore! ( )
