Just seeing the cover photo of a much younger Jane Goodall with a brown ponytail makes this feel like a nice piece of history.
Then I opened the book for the introduction and read that "... many authors feel an almost overpowering need to share with others some experience which has, for them, had great meaning and significance."
Then she describes the setting, their companions and the general behavior of wild African dog packs before Hugo's first-person account begins.
Beautiful B&W illustrations throughout by David Bygott.
All this and a truly heartbreaking story about plucky little orphan female named Solo. Don't worry, the ending is happy enough. This tale is stuck into my memory from way back, so may you let this book pluck your heart strings for you... ( )
