I'm going to try not to give too much away but I will warn you this book is not for sensitive or young readers.
The story picks up right where 'Rhapsody' ended. If you didn't read the first one be warned these characters live in the underworld. Jean-Pierre is the head of cartel in France and has no qualms about killing. Eden has accepted Jean-Pierre for who he is, his past and his future and lives in a haze of lust and a dream as Jean-Pierre does everything in his power to make her happy.
The book is split into three sections, much like a sonata. The first section is like their honeymoon period, with lots of erotic, romance. These two are clearly obsessed with each other and can't keep their hands off each other but you know something is going to happen because Jean-Pierre keeps saying he will do anything to keep her safe and their are unresolved issues between Eden's aunt and the Russians with the couple. There is also Rafael's side story of obsession with Shalimar for distraction.
The second section of the book while ominous and violent, was the best part because it felt like we got actual story and not every other page of sex. The author really shines here, bringing more depth, and intensity to the story making it more than an erotic read and pulls a reader in, making them more invested. Aside from a few weird side diversions I did not want to put the book down during this section.
The third section is supposed to be about recovery and the aftermath, and it does but it glosses over most of the hard work and relies too much on their erotic chemistry. Don't get me wrong I like happily ever afters and appreciated the loose ends getting tied up but I was just disappointed that everything seem to revert to surface level, sexual plays rather than diving deep into the emotional work they had to go through. There were also some out of character moments by Jean-Pierre that didn't match up with all I'd come to expect, such as his avenging Eden and lack of response to other events.
So at the end I'm left with mixed feelings, There are amazing moments in the story that captured me but I wished for more story depth to balance out the eroticism.
