This is an incredibly sweet book. The drawings and characters are simple, yet they evoke so much emotion from the reader! I thought I was just being silly when I read it and my eyes filled with tears when the main character wondered, "Why didn't they like it?" But then my kids each read that line with such gentle sadness, I knew they were both empathizing with the character, too.
It really is a simple story, too. But there are some complexities in the illustrations and text that warrant multiple reads of the book, and will likely generate some questions the second and third time.
This is not a sad book, though. There is also a part at the end guaranteed to get a smile or laugh from most kids. ( )

I don't like this book. It was easy over simplified and the same words were used over and over. The overall idea was good, to accept the each other's differences. However, working in s library, I see some great quality children's books, i didn't think this one stacked up. ( )

It is decided! All the Ploofers will do the same thing at the same time. However, one Ploofer does something a little bit different. Because it is different, the other Ploofers reject him. When someone comes along and likes what the different Ploofer did, their views change.

This book is great! It deals with the feelings associated with feeling different: the embarrassment, the rejection, the disappointment. But, once someone realizes that different does not have to be considered bad, the crowd learns acceptance.

The drawings in this book are simple, colorful, expressive, and endearing, and they easily convey the emotions that are being experienced.

This book could be valuable to teach children to both accept someone who is a little different, as well as to remind them that they do not always have to follow the crowd.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. ( )
