Trilingual (Spanish/English/Japanese), celebratory edition, a tribute to the work of the Mexican artist on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death (2013), organized in 13 thematic units with self-explanatory titles, under the general heading of "A Posada Miscellany." Topics include: historical characters; revolution; surprising miracles, saints, images of Christ, and virgins; devils, the infernal dictionary; death and run-of-the-mill skeletons; parlor, board, and card games; Mexico City and the lower classes; musicals, fandangos, and party-goers; love of heaven for a kiss; school children and the slander punished; disasters and the Leo n flood; typical characters, bandits, and famous bullfighters; and human misery or crime unseen. A number of additional essays explore other aspects of the life and work of the admired, elusive artist, from Jesu s Eduardo Marti n Ja uregui's question,"...Who discovered Posada?," to the time spent by the artist in Aguascalientes, Leo n, and Mexico City. Volume ends with a chronology, several indexes, and bibliography. The overall quality of the book is excellent in both form and content, nicely designed with a period flair and generously illustrated, making it a valuable resource for research.
